Frequently Asked

Does it smell like beef?
No. Properly rendered grass-fed tallow is nearly odourless on its own. The small amount of frankincense essential oil gives Phoom a soft, warm, resinous scent — not a food smell.
Is it greasy?
Tallow melts on contact with skin and absorbs quickly if you use the right amount. Warm a rice-grain amount between your fingers and press it in — don't rub it on cold. A single jar lasts most people 2–4 months of daily use.
How long does it keep?
Unopened, at least 12 months. Once opened, use within 6–9 months. Store away from direct sunlight and heat. If the jar ever smells sharp or metallic, don't use it — email us and we'll replace it.
Should I patch-test first?
Yes, especially if you have sensitive or reactive skin. Apply a pea-sized amount to your inner forearm and wait 24 hours before using it on your face.
Is it good for acne-prone or oily skin?
Tallow has a fatty-acid profile close to human sebum, so many oily and acne-prone customers do well with it. That said, everyone's skin is different — start with a very small amount 2–3 nights a week and see how your skin responds.
Is it vegan?
No. Phoom is a beef-tallow product. It is not vegan and not vegetarian. If you're looking for a plant-only balm, this isn't the right product for you.
Where does the tallow come from?
100% grass-fed, grass-finished Australian cattle. We render in small batches at low temperature to preserve the fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) naturally present in tallow.
What else is in it?
Three ingredients: grass-fed beef tallow, organic jojoba oil, and frankincense essential oil. No water, no preservatives, no fragrance, no fillers.
When will my presale order ship?
Presale orders ship within 4–6 weeks of the presale closing, in the order they were received. You'll get an email with tracking as soon as your jar leaves our facility.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes — Australia, New Zealand, US, Canada, UK, and EU by default. Other destinations, email info@phoom.co before ordering.
